Seanan McGuire lives in an idiosyncratically designed labyrinth in the Pacific Northwest, which she shares with her cats, Alice and Thomas, a vast collection of creepy dolls and horror movies, and sufficient books to qualify her as a fire hazard. She has strongly-held and oft-expressed beliefs about the origins of the Black Death, the X-Men, and the need for chainsaws in daily life. Seanan was the winner of the 2010 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, and her novel Feed (as Mira Grant) was named as one of Publishers Weekly's Best Books of 2010. In 2013 she became the first person ever to appear five times on the same Hugo Ballot. She also writes under the psydonym, Mira Grant.

Table 34

Though born and raised in Northern California, I spent the majority of my adult life in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now living in Oregon, life is slower and much less bright than Las Vegas. When I'm not lost in a flurry of writing, I enjoy hiking, reading (of course), travel (cruise obsessed), and quality time with my family.

It's cliche to say that I've wanted to be a writer since I was a little girl...because don't most authors say that? What is new is my obsession with the apocalypse and anything that could possibly cause the fall of our society as we know it. When I first decided to try my hand at writing a full length novel, I started with romance. I just couldn't get it done. When the Duncan Family was born, it was suddenly characters and lives I could sink my teeth into. I find myself being very emotionally connected to my characters, making it difficult to allow anyone to die. But how do you have zombies, without people dying?

Watching the children’s faces light up with wonder as she read her book was the real treat - to know that kids could be inspired through the art of storytelling. Since then, Roxanne has written numerous poems, short stories, and novels shared with friends and family. This is her first major published work, with many more to come.
